Parosphromenus Newsletter No.                     117 1st of November 2014

Dear friends of the Parophromenus, we have again news for you, most of them are good news.

Our webmaster Helene Schoubye has been able to gain the help of two translators for the Parosphromenus Project : Dorothee Jöllenbeck-Pfeffel translated the articles concerning P. phoenicurus and P. gunawani from English to German, and translations into French were, as always, made by Herve Gonin. Both will support us in the future. Thank you!

Pavel Chaloupka from Pilsen has recently become a member of the steering group and will work for relevant contributions for our archive. Please support him with interesting themes!

Mr. Herbert Nigl, the owner of “Aquarium Dietzenbach” supplied the members of the Parosphromenus Project (P-P.) and of the “My fish” project with wild caught P. phoenicurus for free. We are thankful for that!
21 new members have registrated at ‘My fish’ as P. phoenicurus breeders.

With Tautvilas Laureckis as well as other who has joined the Project, we have been able to for the first time to welcome Parosphromenus friends from Lithuania.

Marcyn Chyla / Poland, has with his offspring of P. linkei and P. nagyi Kuantan built up an active group of Parosphromenus friends in Poland. I will visit him in nearest future and supply the Polish and the Lithuanian friends with other species/offspring from my own and Bernd Busslers stock.

Further we have achieved good PR work.

Anton Lamboj / Wien wrote, that he is just rewriting the Red list of labyrinth fish for the IUCN ( International Union of Conservation of Nature) and that he is leading the monitoring of breeding projects in the IUCN and the EAZA (European Association of Zoo and Aquarium), and he suggests that the genus Parosphromenus is added to this project. In this context there are plans for a breeding complex to be build in the “Aquadom Berlin” which from the start should contain the species P. deissneri, P.opallios, P.sumatranus, P.ornaticauda and P. parvulus.

As you already know, we are planning in the second weekend of September 2015 our large international meeting on the areal of Hagenbeck Zoo.
The prearrangement and planning is done by Bernd Bussler.

Horst Linke is back from his journey to Kalimantan. The location of P. spec.Palangan in Central-Kalimantan is in the meantime destroyed and the species is probably gone forever (telephone message on 6th October 2014).

Another urgent occasion to draw attention to the is the necessity to take part in the running census which runs untill the end of October!
