There are actual news messages that the German government has deleted plant oils stemming from oil-palm-plantations from the law on recycled energies (“Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz”). Equally, the European Commission in Brussels has issued a duty for the industry to mark the source of palm oils and other plant oils. Their use (for cars or planes) has not yet been forbidden, however. At any rate: It’s a first step in the right direction. To remember: For the Parosphromenus-project, I signed a petition of many European Nature Conservation Associations in Bonn in autumn this year. The addressees were the European Commission and the German Government and the text mentioned the logging of the rainforests in south-east Asia, the huge loss for the biodiversity and the severe problems caused by this for many indigene peoples and their traditional cultures.
