In December I went to Sarawak and visited the two known locations for P. allani and P. spec. “Sg. Stunggang”. Here I want to give a short report about the current situation in regard of deforestation in Sarawak and the two different types of Parosphromenus I caught there.
First of all, I can inform you that the deforestation in Sarawak is not that extremely comprehensive than in the western part of Malaysia. In contrast to Peninsular Malaysia I saw just a few oilpalm plantations along the main road in Sarawak. I don’t know as it is in parts located farther from the main roads, but I guess that it is not that different.
Both species/types of Parosphromenus known from Sarawak are still existing. However, it was a pretty hard work to catch them because of the high water levels caused by beginning of rain season.

Good to hear that, Christian. Perhaps if anyone wants to make a trip to West Malaysia, you can go collecting P.harveyi. Since the destruction a few years back, the population of fishes has shifted towards a more parosphremenus heavy pattern. B.livida and B.hipposideros can be found in very small amounts in the small tributaries feeding into the (now) river heading towards Sungai Besar.
