In 2021 a couple of pairs of P. bintan from Bintan Island came to the breeding program of PP through local connections.
This produced a large number of offspring, and it was our intention to bring this species into our Core Conservation Program by finding a long time committed partner. This was not easy, but through contacts in Germany we came into contact with the German organization Citizen Conservation (CC). This is a network of professional and private breeder which “combines breeding programs designed according to current scientific knowledge with the willingness of people to actively participate in the conservation of biodiversity” (source Citizen Conservation)
We were able to place P. bintan ‘Bintan’ in CC to secure its breeding due to their good institutional network. Thus, Tiergarten Nürnberg was the first CC member to commit to breeding

We are positive about this arrangement and have already also good reports of offspring. We hope this will continue in the future’
