Prigen Conservation Breeding Art
Prigen Conservation Breeding Ark (PCBA) was established in 2017 as a conservation breeding facility, focusing on some of Indonesia’s most threatened animal species. Located behind the scenes of Taman Safari Prigen in East-Java, PCBA is a joint venture of Taman Safari Indonesia, KASI Foundation, ZGAP and Vogelpark Marlow and is supported by a growing number of international institutions.
In early 2021 a first breeding facility, focusing on conservation breeding of blackwater fish was established. Consisting of 75 tanks, this facility was set up in close cooperation with the Parosphromenus Project and funded by Uwe Abraham and ZGAP.
Early breeding success and continued support by our international partners, enabled PCBA to establish an bigger and more efficient facility, funded by EUAC and, once again, ZGAP and Uwe Abraham. To be completed by the end of 2021, this new facility consists of 160 tanks and a total volume of 24.000 liters of water, allowing for the creation of stable, long-term viable ex-situ populations at PCBA.
PCBA is solely focusing on breeding threatened species in need of ex-situ insurance populations. Highest priority is given to species of the genera Parosphromenus and Betta.
