Parosphromenus tweed­iei (Ruine­mans 2013)

This par­tic­u­lar fish was bought in a shop in Copen­hagen in 2013, and was reported to come from an import via the dutch importer Ruinemans.

It was labelled P.tweed­iei.

There have been dis­cus­sion regard­ing whether it was a cor­rect iden­ti­fi­ca­tion, — this has been an inter­est­ing debate, as it has shown how dif­fi­cult actual iden­ti­fi­ca­tion of in par­tic­u­lar the species P.tweediei can be. The species as we know it is very close to P. alfredi, P.rubrimontis. Even some­times p.tweediei can show up with vari­a­tions in colour­ing, being more blue, or more red.

Theres has been experts hav­ing dif­fer­ent opin­ions about this par­tic­u­lar fish, — some being quite sure it should rather be labelled p.alfredi, — other being more hes­i­tant say­ing it might still be p.tweediei, or even a vari­a­tion which we dont know yet.

For the rea­son of being able to main­tain this par­tic­u­lar species we have decided to keep the iden­ti­fi­ca­tion as P. tweed­iei (Ruine­mans 2013), even it may be not pre­cisely cor­rect, — but it will mean that nomat­ter what we know which fish it is about.

Theres no doubt it is an extremely beat­i­ful fish, and at the moment it has been dis­trib­uted to many other breed­ers in Europe.
