Well I guess that did not necessarily have the typical characteristics of a male a male, secure only when linkei the dorsal fins of which are not pronounced in young animals, if you have seen eggs, it is a good sign, I still not experienced the paros just a few have laid eggs, without prior courtship there are no eggs.
Paros also do not die of spawning harden- as ei some Labyrinthern occurs.March 2, 2015 at 1:41 am #7822helene schoubyeKeymasterTo Dorothee
🙂 yes, I understand, – I was thinking that one of the females could be male in disquise B)March 2, 2015 at 10:01 am #7823Dorothee Jöllenbeck-PfeffelParticipantTo Bernd:
😉In English:
Perhaps Rafaels “girls” have been so much in “the mood” after that big water change and change of environment?
And that they have been looking together in every cave, seems to me as if they were looking where the male is, who has obviously vanishes someway …When I set my linkei offspring in their new tank I was worrying if I would ever be able to differ the sexes. But soon it became obvious.
March 2, 2015 at 10:42 pm #7825Bernd BusslerParticipantBut yet, at the dorsal fin can they really tell them apart, the spots on the side or the filament in the caudal fin are not sure and variable. Incidentally, I have my linkei reduced breed and do it “only conservation breeding” so nice and enthusiastic people like Dorrothe do now really well, so be it, keep it up and think of the meeting in September, we surely need lots of linkei’ s, for I shall not bring, so have plenty of other types
Greeting Bernd 😆March 2, 2015 at 11:25 pm #7827Rafael EggliParticipantHi Bernd, how exactly do you distinguish between male äne female only watching the dorsal fin?
March 2, 2015 at 11:56 pm #7828helene schoubyeKeymasterI cannot speak for Bernd, – but I find that the spike in the tail becomes distincty longer, and the two pectorial fins as well, much longer. Apart from that, theres also a question of size and bodyshape, but this is only when the fish has a certain age. And I think it is rather difficult.
This thread and this question made me think of a video film which I made a couple of years ago, – because theres a female linkei in it, which stands still for almost minutes 🙂 .. so maybe she is a good example. I know it was a female. You can find her at 5.35.
I apologize for uploading this quite long video here in a thread which is not really about this issue, – but I hope you will forgive me. The film was made for fun one day when I thought I would teach the world about the beautiful paros. It lies on youtube, but I dont know how many people really see it. There may be some ‘mistakes’ in it, I have sinced learned a few things more I guess.
March 4, 2015 at 12:16 am #7832Bernd BusslerParticipantNow in the male linkei’s the dorsal fins are extended always long, rather short in females, which can be seen already at the juvenile stage quite well.
March 4, 2015 at 12:20 am #7833Dorothee Jöllenbeck-PfeffelParticipantHello Helene,
very fine video! 🙂March 8, 2015 at 11:09 pm #7840Rafael EggliParticipantHi everyone,
Yesterday, I got the nem Male from Dorothee. This is defenitely a male. The behaviour of my Fish is really interesting. Aparently, one of the females has chosen her Romeo and seems to Show the sexy eyes… They already coose a cavelike hole under a Root wehre I suppose they will soon spawn.
The Male has a little scratch in his caudal fin, I think this might have happened during the transportation or while catching. However, i think he will be completely fine soon.
March 8, 2015 at 11:47 pm #7841Bernd BusslerParticipantlinkeis are almost unstoppable when it comes to eggcup is certainly something. Have been a few hundred tightened it. The end of next week, they will hatch …………………… what you give them to eat then?
March 9, 2015 at 12:18 am #7842Rafael EggliParticipantWell, at the moment, I feed micro worms and artemia naupliae. Besides this, I will get mayfly and other insect narvae from a nearby pond and I’ll try to get black misquito larvae in our garden…
March 9, 2015 at 2:14 pm #7843Bernd BusslerParticipantThat sounds good, so it will surely succeed. Do you still interested in Paros in Switzerland or are you the only one?
Black Mosquito larvae go very well with nettle water soaked, so I have all summer black fly larvae for my Paros. At the moment, in the road ditches enough mosquito larvae and if the weather stays like it is from the end of the month again everywhere abundant live food. 🙂March 11, 2015 at 12:47 am #7845Rafael EggliParticipantHi Bernd,
Well, I think that I am still the only Swiss paro Keeper. I Hope to find some others also because I have some nice betta coccina offspring that might need new keepers to take care of. I have some good Connection to lokal Shops who have Great options. I think I might find some further interested people…
March 13, 2015 at 12:13 am #7848Rafael EggliParticipantHi everyone,
I m back with an extreamly happy update. When I came back from school today, I went straightly downstairs to have a look at the linkeis tank. I had been suspicious about seing sexy eyes in one of the females for some days but mostly thought it was something made up by my excited imagination.
Well… today, I found the first real bubble nest nicely put under a leave in the front of the tank. Even from the pictures taken with my digicam, and later very well under the microscope I could see some greyish embryos in the eggs.
I defenitely had to take some pictures though… And there we go:
Pic 4 is one egg at a magnification of 100x I think, the round structure on the left top is an eye.
Pic 5 is the same part at a higher magnificatipn (im not exactly sure but i think its 200x)
Besides this, I could record a video where you can see heartbeat and also few pigments.I am surprised to see this wide developed embryos since I usally saw such a development only after a few days. Do you think these eggs are older than say 24 hours?
How long will they take to hatch?March 13, 2015 at 12:21 am #7849Dorothee Jöllenbeck-PfeffelParticipantHi Rafael!
That are fine news!
The linkei eggs develop very quick – soon you will see the larves growing black – and then soon they will swim. It is just a question of about a week? You can find it in the paro book – I can’t remember numbers very good …. ;-).And then the mini Paros will vanish for weeks and weeks between the leaves before you will see them again 👿 really surprising small fish, our Paros! :silly:
