Today I received from Horst Linke 13 specimen of a hitherto unknown Parosphromenus, again very similar if not identical with P. bintan. We call it regarding the locality where it was caught P. spec. Dua. That locality is situated about 15 km east of Kota Jambi near Lupakelai. From here in southern direction near Kasang Pudak there a the marsh fields of Pari Dua. The region is part of the province Jambi. Linke caught the fish some months ago. Some of the 13 specimen are offspring already bred in Germany.
To my opinion only thorough genetic research could throw enough light on the relationships of all the bintan-like forms. Maybe, the distribution of this species is much more widespread than originally given by the describer (M. Kottelat); or we have very similar forms but nevertheless separated by clear genetic structures already. The truth may lie in the middle, too: several semispecies still in the process of developing to separate full species.
I express my gratitude to Horst Linke.
