Aquanom (ex-Aquafish) in Northeim got around 100 fishes in very good condition. As I wrote some time ago, I had intensive conversation by mail with the owner. I told a lot about PP and he said he will try to get a small number of orna.
On Friday I got the message. He is interested to give most of the fish to PP!
We should try to take all fish and splitt up in PP. As we all know we need orna for the PP, because it’s almost lost in PP.
A skilled friend and me will take around 6-8 pairs. Please contact him as fast as possible.
Best regards

Personally I would like very much to find ornaticauda, but for me it is too far away. I think it is not easy to organize such a thing as you mention, – it needs to be people who live close by, and would like to take many of these fish. I am not sure you will reach enough people here. It will not be so easy I think to distribute so many fish to P-P members.
Perhaps if anyone was coming to the meeting in Hamburg there might be a way to bring some there, but I dont know if you plan to.
It is true enough as you say, that at this moment we do not have many ornaticauda, but they are not that rare in trade. I know from a friend of mine who works in a shop in Copenhagen, that ornaticauda is not seldom on their lists.
But also, ornaticauda is really tricky and difficult, and even if many members would take ornaticauda, for many it would likely be only for a short time after which they may not be able to hold on to this particular species.
What we need is for someone with a lot of experience and skills to try to maintain the species for longer periods of time.
Anyway, I am not sure what to do in this situation, but it is good that you told us. We will have to see how many might react to it, maybe people living in Germany nearby.August 20, 2017 at 9:45 am #9352Christian NeickParticipantHello Helene,
Aquanom is sending fish by GO. It’s working well. I tried by myself a few times with rar species like Paros and Sp. vaillanti. Packing and starting in afternoon/evening, receiving the next morning. For me that would be the easiest way to splitt them to the people.
Moving the fish another time is necessary in every case of transportation.I hope a lot of members will use the chance to get them.

August 20, 2017 at 11:04 am #9353Peter FinkeParticipantHelene is fully right. Every year when the breeding season in sundaland has ended, young Paros of some of the main catching grounds are traded by some central suppliers to Europe and the world. P. ornaticauda is highly longed for and presently available in some shops in Germany and in other countries. The problem for the P-P is not availability but breeding and sustainability. Until today concerning this species, this has not changed our efficiency in that. You can be sure that our members with really breeding experience will try to solve the puzzle. You are invited to join them.
By the way, with any species we prefer to strengthen the stocks with approved locality. In this species there is a rather big realm of distribution that may mean different local variants, that may cause those problems. At present, an Asian member of the project is researching in Kalimantan Tengah and probably will be able to tell us more in Hamburg on that problem. You are invited to join us there, too.
Therefore, postings as yours do not solve the problems; they enhance the usual mentality of want-to-have and keeping-to-death which marr the usual aquaristics. P-P is different.
I do not want to offend you, I want to make you conscious of the problems.
August 20, 2017 at 6:34 pm #9354Benjamin WildenKeymasterFirst of all, thank you, Chris, for sharing this.
If it is as Chris says there is no problem. The owner is willing to give the fishes to our project and everyone interested might contact him and get some fishes via GO. So I will contact him and take a few pairs. If I am right he will be happy for every pair in good hands and if not he might just not send the fishes individually and needs to sell them locally. He can decide.
Peter and Helene are right, but as the fishes are here everyone interested should rush and try to breed them 😉
August 23, 2017 at 5:55 pm #9355hallmannParticipantBennie is right, in my oppinion. We have to thank Chris for his engagement (little denglish). It`s not unethical to keep paros, even not ornaticauda from trade. If we can get them.
Best wishes, Martin

The owner try to get more detailed information from the exporteur about type locality. If we get exact information they could become more interesting for the PP.
Kind regards
