Couldn’t one set the initial map showing up on a smaller scale, displaying “the world”? Everybody could change the scale and see more details. Although the present distribution of the Paro’s friends is very one-sided prefrerring central Europe (and many users would have a closer look on that region, of course), I feel a bit uneasy by putting Europe at a big scale in the center. Our project opens the view of our members to the world, that’s very rare for aquarists. Mostly they have friends nearby and think only in the distance of the next pet shop. Parosphromenus is different, and our thinking of the great network must be different. It’s a bit pedagogical, I admit; but that’s nothin bad? Maybe Europe in the center, but there should be America full on the left and Asia full on the right. (I feel uneasy about that already; but it might be a compromise).
January 24, 2012 at 2:05 pm #4144Steffens, SylviaParticipantHelene could set the “Zoom” in the settings for the mapping tool down to 1, and the whole world should be shown.
January 25, 2012 at 1:21 am #4149helene schoubyeKeymasterHi Nathea – thanks for the tip on the zoom, – in fact it had to be set on 2 – then it shows the whole world. And Little 🙂 Tampa is now on the west coast as it should, I had just set it to Florida …
January 27, 2012 at 4:29 am #4164Marcin ChylaParticipantHello Everyone, I’m just joing to this Paro-map. It is great idea! This I think, would help all paro-friend to menage some kind of “society”. And this is what we all want to do ! 🙂

February 1, 2012 at 2:17 am #4175Steffens, SylviaParticipantHello everyone,
let me fetch back the idea of marking the towns, where Paro-breeders and friends are living nearby. I proposed to use the possibilities of the Joomla-module: To take different signs for single people (star) and for the towns (gouse icon).
I would be pleased if I could help accomplish these work.
February 1, 2012 at 5:35 am #4176helene schParticipantHi Nathea.
Thank you for offering help.
Yes, I agree, we have also been talking about using different markers for different ‘type’ of information, – such as breeders.
However the process is a bit slow, – first of all we are working on how to inform everybody about the opportunity for this.July 31, 2016 at 7:16 pm #8930Bill HunterParticipantTerribly sorry for raising this old post from more than 4 years ago. This is the result of being a new member and reading every post on the forum 🙂
I was very interested in this to the extent that I added my name and house to the map then read on. I was disappointed when it suddenly ran out of steam. I looked at the “maps” tab but couldn’t find the members map on there – I used the original link that was put into the thread initially. As I continued reading I tried Nathea’s link, unfortunately it doesn’t work any more 🙁 Has this part of the project been abandoned? It started off as an excellent idea. Meanwhile, I’ll leave my name on the map.
To Bill Little, as per your question back then, I tried your postal code and it gave me an largish area with Highpoint at the centre. So Postal Codes, at least in the States, give an area where you are but is certainly not indicating your actual home. That seems to offer some privacy, people would need to contact you for better details. There may be more privacy problems using Post Codes in the UK. If I remember correctly a Postal Code for the UK actually Identifies around 3 or 4 houses. For instance sending a letter addressed to John Smith only with the Postal code xxx xxxx would actually be delivered to the correct house with no other information required.
Ireland is only this year starting postal codes, they will work very similarly to UK Post Codes. I don’t know how other European Post Codes Work.
Anyway, sorry for dragging up an old post, but if it gets the ball rolling again, then it’s worth it, I, personally, think it’s a great idea.

August 1, 2016 at 1:14 pm #8933helene schoubyeKeymasterHi Bill.
Just nice to see that you are reading through all our ‘old’ stuff 🙂 …
But to the members map, yes I have to say we abandoned the project. There are several reasons for that, – one it became a rather extensive job to keep up for me, – because it changes all the time, – some people join, a few may leave, some may move, – and all of a sudden theres a risk it really isnt accurate anymore.
And we also found that even we did have a members map, people would anyway write to me, Bernd or Peter if they were really looking, and it was often a lot easier to help directly via a mail.If someone had a great idea – and the time to help for example, it is not as if the idea could not be taken up again. But for the moment its not maintained, and I did unpublish it on the homepage
August 1, 2016 at 3:45 pm #8934Bill HunterParticipantThanks, Helene. That’s a real pity. If it is ever revived then I would be more than willing to run it, after all, I’m stuck at home all day so have plenty of time on my hands.
If there is anything I can do at all, please let me know. My computer is here beside me in my fish room. I sit and care for my tanks then just turn around and tend to my computer 😆
Anyway, I’m at the projects service.

Let me just have a think about it, – and I will return with something shortly. -
