What is happening here is all about money, the people needs money(economical issues to cope with standard of living), the government wants money(greediness that leads to corruption & bribery acceptance), it all happens that natural resources(oil palm) brings economic well-being(pretty much fast and easy money) caused by the valuation of it by the world.
These few main factors leads to government promote oil palm industry by subsidies or whatever support, business people makes big money, pay under table money to the various department i.e. environmental department, linking up with family members(often giving shares) of those who are in power(politically) for favour to keep an eye close on whatever is happening. The people(citizens) remain silent for 3 main reason, first is the culture of being easy going, second being job opportunities as majority of people out of main city are economically relying on this industry, also considering the misused of political power by governing parties to suppress freedom of speech(the rich keeps quiet and continue the benefits while the middle class & poor continue getting “punishment”from speaking out)
This is a very general picture of what is going on in Malaysia and pretty similar case for Indonesia
Soo Xi WeiParticipantPrevious few encounter with hydra in my wild betta tank is either I completely clear the tank, totally black out from light for a few weeks or to wait for it to disappear naturally without any modification.
Being a lazy hobbyist who don’t change water frequently, I prefer to let them go off naturally from the tank although it took quite a long time to happen
Soo Xi WeiParticipant
Dear C. Way, P. Yap (Singapore) is always a good address for licorice gouramis in south-east Asia; mailto: aa123@singnet.com.sg
Accidentally Prof. Dr. Peter Beyer pays him today (December 11th) a visit! I know by him that Yap actually has P. nagyi in stock, probably other species too.
You could also try Abdul Sahal (Kalimantan); mailto: xtrembetta@yahoo.co.id
In Germany we have actually more than 12 species offered by 10 private private breeders. It’s ridiculous that in the home countries ogf these fish it is much more difficult to get hold of them!
Good luck!
thanks a lot for the information, have contacted both before, certain circumstances stands in between the purchases i.e. number of purchase to off set freight cost, still sorting things out, number of enthusiasts are way too small to do any help in this matter…
Soo Xi WeiParticipantfound it hard to source for Parosphromenus sp commercially although they were wide spread in South East Asia
Restarting my collection with P. Anjunganensis & P. Nagyi, coming soon will be P. Harveyi, shifting focus away from wild betta into Parosphromenus
Soo Xi WeiParticipant
wau..really nice to know can get the paros near by..:)
good chance to pair up your single P. “Blue-Line” female and get them spawning :), hopefully it is possible to channel a few pair over for breeding purposes 🙂
Soo Xi WeiParticipantmay I know where and how to get to contact the seller? I’m from Malaysia, just north of Singapore, thanks
Soo Xi WeiParticipant
Dear Kindai, we forwarded your wish to our friends who will visit the region again. Yes, it would be marvellous if they/we could be accompagnied by you next time!
In a mail to me our new member Xi Wei Soo from Selangor, Malaysia, post code 47100, writes:
“Selangor going through lot of development over the years, most significant part is around Sepang and Cyberjaya area where B. Livida was once found there. For my short 4 years playing with wild betta, I never had the chance to visit any localities of paros and wild betta apart from B. Imbellis and B. Pugnax, although B. Livida is the first species I bred (…).Looking forward to keep and breed Paros Alfredi, Tweedei, Rubrimontis, Bintan as well as Harveyi”
Perhaps there is a contact possible between you guys over there? It would be nice if the “Parosphromenus-Project” could help with establishing those contacts!
Thanks Dr Peter for introducing, we indeed knew each other and contact quite often :), still learning about this amazing little fish, I’m more into breeding and keeping them.
