No, the Census is finished, – we have not yet send anything out.

It has been uploaded here on the homepage for some time, only I did only upload it on the english site. The reason for this is because there has been some uncertainty if the commentary should be translated into german.
I am sorry, I actually meant to upload it on the german and french site, with the comments in english.

    I will do so now
Thank you for reminding me 🙂

Actually, I just tested it 3 times and had no problems, – and I just want to say, that your email, Dorothee, + the other mail which reported the problem, – both of these was actually recieved well enough, so there are these notifications, which you get, – but appently the mail is delivered as it should be.

So for the time being I will not change anything and leave the census mail link on the homepage.
Its unfortunate, and inconvenient, – but not apparently serious.

Thanks Dorothee for letting me know. I also had another report of a mail that was unable to be delivered to this census email adress.
However I also tested it tonight, and there was no problems.

Again, I am on to support for help. What it is about is not that the email is not working, but that somehow somewhere along the lines (which I am not sure completely of) but the recieving mailbox (in your case web.de) rejects what it thinks to be a mail from an insecure connection. This may not at all be the case (that it is insecure) – but just thought to be, and its all a precaution from for example web.de.
This is what I am trying to find out via support.

I think its a beautiful tank, compliments to that.
It is a really big tank for parosphromenus, – and the disadvantage of that is that although breeding may take place, it will be really difficult to manage. Feeding the fry for one will be very difficult, you will not at all be able to target any paro fry with food. And food you will add will be so small that the fry wont really have a chance to find it.
Secondly, although I believe that paros actually thrive well in bigger tanks and also thrive in small flocks, – they will dissappear in this size tank.

As you may have found here on these pages, – we most often advice people that the idea of having paros is not for the purpose of display. Being so rare and threathened in nature we have an obligation to attempt to breed them, and for this its too big really.
Once you have many, – which also happens, – as I have for example with linkei at the moment, having perhaps 100, and with difficulties in finding other people who need them, – it makes perhaps some sense to also have paros in a ‘display’ tank. But I would then always keep at least 3 pairs seperated for breeding, so that I will never be in the situation where I suddenly have no fish left, – even if a disaster happens in the big tank.
My biggest tank for paros would be 60 liter.

    Hello Chris
Personally I would like very much to find ornaticauda, but for me it is too far away. I think it is not easy to organize such a thing as you mention, – it needs to be people who live close by, and would like to take many of these fish. I am not sure you will reach enough people here. It will not be so easy I think to distribute so many fish to P-P members.
Perhaps if anyone was coming to the meeting in Hamburg there might be a way to bring some there, but I dont know if you plan to.
It is true enough as you say, that at this moment we do not have many ornaticauda, but they are not that rare in trade. I know from a friend of mine who works in a shop in Copenhagen, that ornaticauda is not seldom on their lists.
But also, ornaticauda is really tricky and difficult, and even if many members would take ornaticauda, for many it would likely be only for a short time after which they may not be able to hold on to this particular species.
What we need is for someone with a lot of experience and skills to try to maintain the species for longer periods of time.
Anyway, I am not sure what to do in this situation, but it is good that you told us. We will have to see how many might react to it, maybe people living in Germany nearby.

I would like to just answer shortly regarding Sea life and other attempts at engaging Zoos in breeding programs. Sea life is as far as know still happening and is under planning just now. There will be some more information about this in Hamburg in September.
There has been some contact with Chester Zoo, UK, which originally was very promising, – and it may still be, but at this moment there is really nothing very concrete, and it does seem to me to be a proces which really takes a long time, and is difficult. But we have certainly experienced some positivity from different institutions.

You mention about ‘symbol’ – as the orangutang etc. This issuse we have also been talking about, and it is true, it would be helpful.
What has been talked about, and introduced by Christian Koppitz, and some fellow university students, who also will present their thoughts in Hamburg, – is that it may be helpful to link the situation of the parosphromenus species to the whole problem and tragedie of the peatswamps in southeast asia, borneo.
This whole situation is globally known, and many people are aware of it, and need to become aware of it. The paros, and the ‘fight’ for the paro species could be seen as very closely linked to this situation. By linking these together the seriousness of the danger to the paros, could become more clear in many ways.

    Hello Akhmal
Welcome to the forum, I am happy to see that you managed to create the account.
And it is very good to hear from someone coming from Malaysia, as you also say, it is unfortunately not so many active members in this area, so very welcome to you.
We certainly need people as yourself who live in the area and will be dedicated to helping the parosphromenus species situation.
Regarding allani, I know you have already had contact with Zahar, and he has not been able to help you in Malaysia, — this really surprises me. And I agree with you, of course, it is very important that we care about theses species now.
But these species are present in Europe, — which also should mean to you that they are taken care of to some extent in Europe.
I dont know if it makes sense to bring them all the way back to Malaysia. Perhaps you should wait and hope for your single pair to breed ?

Where is this killi event taking place ?

Some years ago, I had a pair of unidentified paros, that spawned like this 🙂

    Hi Pavel
First of all I think its really great news that they already spawned 🙂 .. I really hope that the eggs will develop fine and you will be able to have more of this fine little species, after all the trouble you did to have them.
Its unusual to place the eggs like that, I am sure, but I would take as perhaps either the confusion of a recently wild caught and perhaps even very young parent.
Or perhaps its saying something about how they actually can do in the natural environment, – I mean, my parvelus males are always hanging around inside the caves I gave them, but of course in nature, perhaps theres no such ‘nice’ cave around, and then if they want to breed, they probably find all other kind of places.
But its unusual in the way that the eggs seems to be set on the side with no bubble nest to really hold it 🙂 ..

Well, – I am no expert 🙂 … thats for sure, – but I can always give my best opinion.

I think they resemble p.alfredi – have a look at the species articles.

But then again, – even if they resemble, doesn’t mean they are for certain. There are still many variations, and species that are close to p.alfredi.
But I say so because of the wide red band in the tail, the short dorsal fins, the rim around the fins.

But the colours are still a bit making it difficult, I suppose they are not completely natural colours ?

oh, and by the way, – I managed to completely delete a post I wrote earlier in this topic, – just wanted to be clever admin, which totally failed. But it wasn’t anything really important 🙂

🙂 Its completely impossible to say much about the excact species or variation, – but one thing is sure, its not deissneri.

They resemble a little my phoenicurus or tweediei females, but it will take a male to really know for sure. I would say there may be a chance one of these could actually be male, and just not showing it yet.
Perhaps the fish are young and still maturing.

So lets wait a little and then try to make more photos.

Hi John, – great to hear that, – I am sure you made a great presentation – and fantastic that you met Alan Brown and his wife, – I have never met them, – but I know Peter will be very happy to hear that.
