Hi there Peter, the weird looking alfredi females are the ones that have usurped the original alfredi location. These look almost exactly like nagyi. And yes, forest clearing goes on unabated.
This does not bode well for the genus as a whole. If you look at All Labyrinths, there was a species known as Paros sp “Malakka” which I assume is caught in the State of Malacca. We haven’t had any reports of Parosphremenus species being caught in that state for the past 6 years or so.
It is the same here. The older experts and those who can breed and keep them for long periods have all given up due to work. It’s a big problem. With errant forest clearing and swamp drying, these fishes are being driven to the edge of no return on a daily basis.
