Interesting discussion … different places, different situations. I am in the process of putting out a container or two for the summer. However, my temperatures will reach 32 – 35C in the heat of the day. I can place Elassoma in the containers. They are virtually free if collected from the local ponds in the area. On the other hand, my Betta edithae are expensive as I must purchase them on the internet and pay for shipping. If I am successful with fry in the coming months I may try placing a few of them in the outside container. I believe their early growth would be much improved being outside and be able to feed continuely.

This assumes that all the ice and snow is gone before the end of summer 😉 🙂

(quote) Also I’m not used to “clean” my tanks all the time, I have in every tank shrimps and snakes, they do a good work.
Till now I newer had to manipulate much in my tanks, I respect too much the rest of
    my animals ;-)(quote)
Do we have a translation problem here … do you actually keep snakes in your tank with the shrimp??

Historically it has been documented that at least two different Parosphromenus species exist on Bangka. The island has been highly redeveloped as a tourist area and much of the known breeding areas have been destroyed. It is highly doubtful that the Parosphromenus species being offered is P. deissneri.

If you check the species page for Parosphromenus gunawani on this site it will show Danau Rasau as the source location for this species. This species was officially documented in December of last year along with Parosphromenus phoenicurus . These fish were collected by Horst Linke on two specific occasions but to the best of my knowledge have never been commercially imported and offered for sale. They were offered commercially earlier in the year both in Europe and the U.S. but proved to be misidentified. They were again offered this past week in the U.S. (I assume in Europe also) by one distributor and one can only assume that they are once again being misidentified. I am considering bring in a limited number just to examine them first hand.

The first Nagyi that showed up in this country earlier this year looked very similar to the photo that Helene posted above. That’s what I recognize as Nagyi.

    Helene —
No we have no such term for that. Perhaps that’s because we never have hobbyist that would have tanks in those conditions 😉

Nico — Salt Lake City is beautiful. I have been there a number of times over the years. You will enjoy your study time there I’m sure. I know of a breeder of Wild Bettas in Orem which is about a 40 minute drive from where you will be living. Once you are settled in SLC contact me and I will provide you with contact information for this individual. Good Luck and safe travel .

With other species, cichlids – angelfish in particular, we often pull the eggs and artificially hatch them. I have just searched the site and I find no reference to attempting this practice. Has it been attempted and was there any success?

Welcome back … we indeed missed you in your absence. Paros or no Paros your tanks are amazingly beautiful. Did you reposition the tank? It doesn’t appear to be in front of the window any longer. I must now go and read you post on the other forum.
