Miguel MolicoParticipantMiguel MolicoParticipant
One year later (almost exactly) and a new generation is born. One of the pairs I kept just had their first batch of fry. I believe there is a seasonal pattern to their breeding.
Miguel MolicoParticipantLet me know if you need higher resolution versions of any of the photos, Helene.
Regards,
Miguel MolicoParticipantI am very sorry to hear that. It looks like dropsy (raised scales and the bulgy eyes) but it might not be easy to determine the underlying reason.
Miguel MolicoParticipantFinal update: I kept 5 males and 5 females and sold the remaining 85 fish to a local fish store. Here are the latest pictures. The males are showing beautiful colours.
Miguel MolicoParticipantAn update: at approximately 4 months.
Miguel MolicoParticipantMoved most of the fry to a grow out tank. There are over 40 little paros.
Here are the latest pictures at 9 weeks.Miguel MolicoParticipantAt 47 days now they look like mini paros
Miguel MolicoParticipantAt 38 days.
Miguel MolicoParticipantAround 32 days. They are starting to develop the typical stripes and some are starting to get a iridescent stripe on the dorsal fin. They are around 1cm.
Miguel MolicoParticipantThank you everyone. They are growing surprisingly fast.
Approximately 24 days.
Approximately 25 days
Miguel MolicoParticipantAn update. Approximately 20 days since hatched.
A new batch of fry just left the cave.Miguel MolicoParticipantI know that the eggs were laid on 21 November (I made a note). So, if they hatched around 24 Nov they would be 13 days.
Miguel MolicoParticipantI am not sure (see my post Please help with ID). Helene suggest that it is a p. sp. ‘blue line’.
Miguel MolicoParticipantI use RO/DI water with a bit of Seachem Equilibrium. The ph is around 5, KH around 0, GH around 3, and TDS 85ppm. Temperature around 25-26C (78F) controlled by a small preset heater. The tank has a small sponge filter (which helps keep the water very clear despite the tannins). The substrate is Fluval Plant and Shrimp Stratum and there is some Indian Almond Leaf litter (Terminalia catappa). There are some plants, in particular, lots of floating plants.
