    Thank you Helne and Lennart,

    This is a real kicker!!!
On top of this I am fighting constant amonia problems in the other tanks although the fish seem fine. I can change water today with perfect readings and have ammonia at .5 + by tomorrow.

The Opallios tank was the one I could say is perfect.

We must have some really strange water on this side of the pond.

Unfortunately I have terrible news to post. I’m really sick and let down.

In a matter of 3 days I have lost all my Opallios. This is one tank that has been very stable for me. All water parameters, temps and Ph has remained good.

I am going to scrub the tank out and try once more since they are still available. If it was disease from the seller I assume they would also know by now also. Peter once once mentioned that some or at times they can be fragile, so I was using extra caution with them, but this was sudden death with no clues I can find.

Sorry I have report this as all fish health has been well.

Yes, it seems their peak breeding time is in our fall to early winter seasons. Currently, the dealers are having good stocks of young fish. During the summer months there seems to be less “wild caught” fish available. I would guess they have a regular breeding season at home and a few months off duty!! So a break for you fish should not at all be harmful, and may acually help them recover from the breeding season. They probably have several broods as we have seen and heard reported of males having a couple of broods weeks apart in the same caves. I don’t know the weather patterns in paros locations ut would guess they spawn during or just after the “wet” seasons for plentiful clean flush of waters and optimum conditions of plankton tpe foods for the young.

I feed at least once a day usually Moina. If there are moinas still swimming in he tank, I do not feed since I think it is good to let the fish do a bit of hunting and clean them up. I have no idea what is best since paros are new to me, but as a long time fish keeper, it seems to me that feeding can vary from everyday to at least everyother day and sometimes even less. In he wild, fish do not normally get a full meal everyday so I usually don’t worry much about constant food available…depends on the moina cultures. For breeding I think a bit more is better and also a variety of foods.
As long as water parameters remain good, feeding is ok.
To “overfeed is up to you but generally be sure they eat it all and food
is not laying around in the tank spoiling… that is all your call….since yu know your tanks and fish.
As a successful breeder I would say yoour techniques are good!!

Thank you Bartian, yes, these little fish do match all descriptions and I have no doubts now that they are Opallios. I’m not aware of any location variants so once again with retailers I cannot know where they are actually from.

I am trying new pictures almost every day and may have to borrow a better camera from friends.

My plan is a 20 gallon long tank (approx 75 liters) for 10 male paros with plenty of cover and hiding spots..

The reason is I have 5 male Spec Ampah’s, one extra male Parvulus and approx 5 male Opallios, and need to get them out of the smaller breeding tanks, and it would be much easier to maintain them in one tank.

As soon as I get a good count on the females I would have a good system to provide guaranteed pairs available to those here in the US.

Good news about helping to save some of the peat bogs, along with other good news:

I have at least 9 Opallios now, after working with the shipper, both males and female mix!! My camera is not working, and trying with the cell phone but not very good at all! It will be a while before I can pics now.

I just dropped the camera so will try once more tonight.

Great and thanks again… then we are indeed on course with Parosphromenus…. its just the trade business loss has stunned me with species already on the brink.
